Hello there, it’s Dave again with another video slot review. Now I’m a bit of a closet science geek, so when I saw an evolution-themed game was available I had to take a look! Evolution is at heart a fairly standard 5 reel slot with 25 paylines, no progressive pots and a couple of bonus rounds. So far so good, but I have to tell you something.
This. Game. Is. Gorgeous!

About the Evolution Slot Machine
This is definitely one of the best looking 3D animated slot games there is. Every symbol is animated at all times giving a really effective three dimensional effect. It’s got a beautiful ethereal soundtrack that really fits the theme too. In terms of game play it’s really something for everyone, because you can play for pennies or go for all 25 lines and play for up €125 per spin. It’s also nice to see a game that offers a couple of different bonus options and blends it all really well with the theme and ambience. Every symbol has been beautifully designed and even the standard playing card icons have been really cleverly made to look like microscopic life. Yes ok, you get it – I like the way Evolution looks!
The game’s theme is around life evolving in the oceans, so it’s only right that the wildcard is a bubble! This can only show up on reels two to five, not the first. The bubble can substitute for any other standard symbol. Unlike some games the wildcard in Evolution does act to multiply winnings, so any payouts you get thanks to the wildcard will be at standard rates.
There is also a Free Spin icon you need to keep an eye out for. Unlike with some games it doesn’t matter where this shows up on the reels to give you a win or trigger the free-spinning bonus play. You need 2 of them to appear to win some coins, and 3 or more to get into that bonus screen.
Payout Table and Win Potential
If you’re playing for real cash then the wins available are not too bad. In the standard game the top win for matching symbols is 500 coins, but by using the special symbols you can actually pocket up to 44,000 coins! There’s a handy “pay table” button at the bottom of the game screen where you can access the full rates for combinations and see the max payouts involved.
Evolution Bonus Features
If you’ve managed to involve from an amoeba to a higher form of life and got yourself the free-spin bonus then you’re in for some excitement. Up to twenty free spins can be awarded each time. Now unlike with some games you can’t get extra spins by winning symbols again in this play. However, there’s a second bonus – the Evolution Bonus.
So if you manage to land a winning combo during a free-spin round you get the chance to Evolve yourself (well, financially at least). What happens is that the symbols you won with “evolve” to the next highest level on the pay table and so you effectively get a boost for each win line. If you get a few of these during your free-spin action you can see some hefty coin wins build up.
Game Settings and How To Play Evolution
The game may be called Evolution, but the controls and settings haven’t evolved beyond what you’ll be used to from most other video slots. Choose your coin value from €0.01 to €0.50 and the number of lines to play on – there’s something for everyone with this betting range. The other main features are the automatic play, where you can choose how many spins the computer should make on your behalf, and the “skill stop” feature where you can stop all reels at any time during a spin by hitting the spin button again.
Lots of settings controls are available from the menus at the bottom of the machine. You can change the volume settings, sound effect on or off, soundtrack, and so on. Because it’s actually quite graphics intensive you can also turn the quality down a bit if playing on an older computer or low powered mobile device.
So yes, I really do like the look of this game. I think it’s one of the best looking slots out there, and the range of features aren’t too scary for beginners which means even casual gamblers can enjoy this lovely looking game.
