History
WMS Industries, the company that owned WMS Gaming, dates back to 1943. Since the 1970s and 80s, WMS has focussed on creating popular pinball machines and arcade video games.
In 1991, Williams Gaming was launched, with the aim of joining video lottery and gambling markets. WMS was already building slot machines for brick and mortar casinos by 1994. In 1996, Reel ‘em In became a major hit on the Vegas scene. It was a video slot featuring a multi-line, multi-coin secondary bonus. It later added classic slots such as Jackpot Party, Boom and Filthy Rich.
During the 1990s, their business grew as more and more US states licenced casino gambling and video lottery games. Their success was also boosted by Native American (“Indian”) casinos that began to spring up in many reservations. WMS Gaming focussed on the manufacturing, selling, leasing maintaining, licencing and managing video slots and other games.
In 2001 they launched their most famous series of slots with a Monopoly. Since then WMS, has continued to look for licences to create branded slots, creating some of the most recognizable slots in the world. In 2013, WMS was bought by the Scientific Games Corporation.
Scientific Games (SG Digital)
SG Digital is a company with a long history. The company SG Interactive (Scientific Games Interactive) originally operated more than 200,000 different slot machines in the many casinos, gambling stores, bingo halls and arcades in the UK. It has taken over producers The Global Draw and Barcrest (who make slots for brick and mortar casinos), but also online gambling companies NextGen, Bally, Barcrest, Shuffle Master and Williams. Recently SGI merged with well-known game developer NHX. The result is SG Digital. In this way, the company has a very large library of games, with the years of experience and professionalism of the subsidiaries and merger companies.

What type of slots does WMS make?
WMS was one of the first companies to adapt land-based slots to the online space. They have always done so with excellence, and have an experience that dates back to the early ‘90s, when the internet was still in its infancy.
Their games call to mind the casinos and gaming halls of the ‘90s and they are still strong in that branch. Their games are simple, yet effective. WMS games are easy to play, have excellent mathematics and are tried and tested. The result is an uncomplicated and reliable casino experience.
Old-fashioned gaming is doing will in the 21st century. Today, dozens of other game developers are still using the principles WMS invented. Many bigger gaming studios, such as NetEnt or Yggdrasil, are now trying to recreate that old fashioned feel with their retro slots.
What are some of WMS’ best slots?
Many of WMS’ best slots are branded, and we will discuss a few of them here.
MONOPOLY Grand Hotel
MONOPOLY Grand Hotel is one of WMS’ best titles to date. The game was launched a decade ago. It makes a Monopoly board come to life. You can watch guests and favourite characters dart over the board in 3D graphics. The Artificial Random Intelligence Algorithm (ARIA) technology ensures that players get a different bonus every time. It features a Multiplier Boost, where players winnings are randomly multiplied.
You will also find Free Spins: land six or more hotel or house symbols to get them. Each house can give you up to 25 times your stake per symbol. You will get 6 to 15 free spins, depending on how many houses and hotels landed. You can retrigger the free spins, giving you the chance to win up to 240 in total!
Wizard of Oz
This slot can be played both online and offline, it boasts a generous payout of 50,000 coins. It is one of the most popular games in Vegas history. In this game, you need to help Dorothy and her dog, Toto, find the Wizard of Oz and return home. Of course, you will be looking to collect plenty of treasure along the way.
The game features bonus round for extra big wins. If the feature symbol lands in reels 1, 2 or 3, you can choose between 3 prizes: the Emerald City feature and the Winged Monkey feature or a random cash prize.
Along your way, you will find your friends the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion who will help you. There are also winged monkey wilds along the way, so watch out for them.
Bruce Lee
If you love old martial arts movies, you might enjoy this game. This is a very simple, yet fun slot. It features 2 reels with 2 rows, next to 3 reels with 4 rows. The reels are full of kung fu weapons, and every now and then Bruce Lee himself will make an appearance. You can activate the free spins in 3 different ways. While the graphics may look a bit dated, this is still a low volatility slot, with frequent wins.
Where can I find WMS slots?
If you want to play games WMS slots, it can sometimes be confusing. Parent company SG (Scientific Gaming) is a merger company of many smaller companies including SGI, NextGen, Bally, Barcrest, Shuffle Master, NHX, and Williams (WMS). Sometimes these providers are listed separately, but not always. So you should look for either Scientific Games, SGI, SG Gaming (different names for the same company) or WMS if you are a fan of these games. In any case, we recommend always reading our reviews before choosing any online casino.
